Will CBD Cause You to Fail a Drug Test?

Will CBD Cause You to Fail a Drug Test?

It’s a question we hear a lot. If you’ve ever typed this query into Google, we’re sure you’ve gotten a multitude of answers with varying degrees of certainty. Despite CBD's growing popularity and ubiquity in people’s daily routines, there are still many misconceptions surrounding its use. One of the biggest questions surrounding CBD use is: will taking CBD cause me to fail a drug test? The short answer: no. Unless a test is specifically modified for CBD, pure CBD will not make you fail a drug test.

However, we understand why the question frequently pops up in discussions surrounding CBD use. Whether you have a mandatory drug test coming up for your job or you just want to put your mind at ease for the future, you don’t have much to worry about when it comes to CBD and drug tests. Need further reassurance? Let's delve into the reasons why!

CBD and marijuana are not the same

CBD is too often mistakenly thought to be the same as marijuana, and from this, many misconceptions are derived and propagated. Legal CBD products aren’t made with cannabis, pure and simple. Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, which means it doesn’t have the power to alter your mental state the same way marijuana does.

While it is becoming more commonly known that although CBD can be derived from marijuana, it is not the same as marijuana and does not give the high that marijuana is known for. What causes a high from marijuana is THC, and pure CBD is THC-free. THC can also cause hallucinations, alter thinking, and even cause delusions. This is usually what people describe as the ‘high’ of marijuana, whereas CBD provides a different, much more calming alternative. Legal CBD must be made with CBD derived from hemp because the plant is naturally low in THC. In order to meet legal requirements, CBD products must contain no more than 0.3% THC by weight.

Which CBD products contain THC?

Full Spectrum CBD products often contain 0.3% of THC or less. (For example, our Mint Full Spectrum CBD oil). Because of this, it’s possible that levels could be detected in your bloodstream. However, our pure CBD oils do not contain THC and will not cause you to fail a drug test. In short, if you have a drug test in your future, stick to pure CBD and steer clear of Full Spectrum CBD products. It’s also worth noting that CBD products containing THC have such an extremely low dosage that the amount won’t create any impactful or noticeable effects.

Extra Protection: Third-Party Lab Reports

When it comes to research, the more you do, the better! If you're looking for extra peace of mind when consuming CBD, look for products backed by a third-party lab report to make sure you know what you're getting with your products. This report will usually confirm a product’s specific ingredients and where they are sourced from. This will also assure you that your products do not contain THC, ensuring you that you'll have nothing to worry about when it comes to passing any drug tests.
